Z is for Zionsville. Have you heard of this quaint town located 15-18 miles northwest of Indianapolis? Zionsville, Indiana, provides an enchanting setting ideal for artists and art enthusiasts. If you have a love for art and enjoy visiting art-friendly towns, this blog post will explain why it could be a fantastic addition to your road trip itinerary.

Art Galleries in Zionsville
The first thing to note is the pedestrian-friendly locations of the art studios in Zionsville. I'll touch on a few of these creative spots.
Established in 2001, A King's Art Studio and Gallery showcase original artwork by artists who have won awards at juried shows. If you're aiming to explore a top 10 art gallery in Zionsville, consider visiting this one during the week. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. I suggest you call in advance to verify the hours.

Following that, Out of the Blue Studios showcases the renowned Indiana artist Amy Carroll. The studio welcomes walk-ins from Wednesday to Saturday, between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Amy also conducts workshops and art classes.
Another notable gallery to visit is Art IN Hand Gallery, which marked its 25th anniversary in April 2025. This gallery is a cooperative, owned, operated, and staffed by a community of local artists. It features art from various artists skilled in a variety of mediums, such as photography, woodworking, painting, jewelry, fused glass, and more. The gallery is open from Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday, it closes at 4 pm. (source: Art IN Hand Gallery website)
Ideal Time for a Road Trip to Zionsville
Mark your calendar for June 26th, 2026! Why? Mainstreet Zionsville is hosting its yearly Art Walk. During the Main Street Art Walk Festival, the street turns into a hub where local artists create and display their masterpieces. Mainstreet is in the center of the Brushstrokes and Brick Streets: Zionsville Artisan Community.
Restaurants and businesses welcome artists and musicians, giving you a chance to visit and engage with them. The art walk last year took place from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Murals, Murals on the Walls...
Where can we find the murals in Zionsville? Where could they possibly be? Might there be some on Mulberry Street? Indeed, there is a new Mulberry Street Mural on the Big-4 Rail Trail in Zionsville! Paid for through a grant from The Community Foundation of Boone County, or CFBC. You can read all about it here: New Mulberry Street mural unveiled

More murals are to be found at the Big-4 Rail Trail. Did you know Zionsville was historically known as Dahlia City in the late 1920's -early 1940's due to two local nurseries that succeeded in growing the flowers that fueled the national dahlia craze? (Source: Wikipedia).

Where does the Big-4 Rail Trail begin? At the Zionsville Road Trailhead, of course. Check out this beautiful mural painting while you sit on the bench and tie your hiking shoes before heading out:
